ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 55: Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy is an American National Standard published by ASHRAE that establishes the ranges of indoor environmental conditions to achieve acceptable thermal comfort for occupants of buildings.
If the temperature's between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the relative humidity (RH) between 30% and 70%, we're more or less comfortable. Of course, the closer the humidity is to 70%, the lower the temperature needs to be for us to be comfortable.
The optimum room temperature is between 18°C and 21°C. Minimumtemperatures of 20°C or 21°C may be required for infants, the elderly and the sick.Temperatures lower than 18°C or higher than 24°C can be a health risk.
Every homeowner should own a hygrometer that measures temperature and relative humidity (RH). The ideal relative humidity for health and comfort is about 40–50%. In the winter months, it may have to be lower than 40% RH to avoid condensation on the windows.
The average atmospheric conditions, below which humans feel comfortably, are between 21 °C and 27.5 °C concerning air temperature; from 30 to 65%, for relative humidity; and wind speed values greater than 5 m/s
